Halter Hotties spring on the growth!!

We at Halter Hotties love that the days are longer, but unfortunately for us in the great Northwest, those longer days aren’t necessarily warmer.

So we have to keep our heat by creating our own excitement—and have we got some hot new developments going and growing!!

We’re super excited to be working with Rebecca Baldwin (of Dame Lola and Dame Lola Trunk Show fame) and Jessica Alexander Jewelry again, this time with their new XanderDash Studio Trunk Show from May 16 to May 21 at 708 Market Street, Court D Level, Unit #411. You’ll need to access the Trunk Show on facebook, make an appointment, and see live and in-person the energy and ideas our two fashionista friends have generated.

And even as Rebecca looks to expand herself to personal styling and her own “Dashow” label, we’re expanding ourselves to include a new line, “Patina, Nouveau Vintage Tunics”, a decidedly modest addition to our indulgent fashion line-up. Our “Patina” tunics are similar to our Halter Hotties Originals in that we combine vintage scarves with the finest silks. Unlike Halter Hotties, however, the silk body of the blouse demurely covers your back and your arms, with “One Size fits Most” styling that combines every-day ease with a hint of Hottie glamour.

Since “Patina” is a shift away from the Original Halter Hotties concept, our head designer, main craftswoman, and fearless leader Kim Alexander is expanding her business concept and name: Now Halter Hotties Originals, HH Sweets, and Patina blouses will all fit under the umbrella of “Kimberly Kay ~ Enchanted Indulgences in Womens Apparel.”

And yes, as a matter of fact, you can expect more growth and fabulousness ahead!!

Romantic Halter Top Outfit Inspired by Lilacs & Love

Ahhh… The Lilacs have arrived. I was 11 when I first noticed the pretty, lavender, flowering tree on the outskirts of our field. Each spring, there after, its wonderful scented blossoms became the first bouquets brought home. Mom and I would pound the ends, get out her biggest vase and fill it to overflowing with lilac boughs.

A few years later, about the time us girls start planning our weddings, while working on our annual Lilac arrangement I said to mom, “You know… I think I’ll marry the first man who brings me a bouquet of Lilacs.” I know it sounds sappy, but I had a plan… You see, I didn’t want to get married. Ever. (My plan was to become an artist, live in a castle on an island and probably have a cat or two.) And at the wise age of 13 I knew that boys always brought roses, not lilacs, to girls they liked!

16 years later…

Answering the knock on my little apartment door, I opened it to find the legs and feet my boyfriend. It was all I could see of him, as he was hidden behind the largest bouquet of Lilacs I had ever seen. As he entered my hallway he said, “I don’t know what these are, but they sure smell good and they reminded me of you”.

A few days ago, we toasted our 15th wedding anniversary with Lilacs on the table and a glass (or two) of “True Love”.

Halter Hotties pal Kelly McDonald is our kind of super-woman. So when this career gal, Zumba teacher, single mom, and fierce YWCA advocate suggested Halter Hotties get on board for the YWCA RAGS wearable art event happening in Tacoma March 11, 12, and 13, we naturally said "of course!". Anytime we can be involved in helping programs like the YWCA in a forum that combines fun, art, and shopping for a good cause... Well, how can you say no?

So imagine how proud we are to note that Tacoma's own TV 12 will feature a chat with our friend on their Cityline program, live on Thursday, March 3, at 9 a.m., and rebroadcast several times following (again on Thursday at 7 p.m., and then several times on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, check the TV Tacoma website for air times).

While we at Halter Hotties will be squealing in excitement to see our friend on television, we'll also be bursting with pride to see one of our pieces shown off on TV: a Halter Hotties first!!

Halter Hotties Honored to Contribute to the Story

...So there we were at the Northwest Trend Show, back on the 24^th, 25^th, and 26^th of January.

We had a blast, we met fabulous people.

One of the notably fabulous people we met happened to approach us about a custom job.

(WHEE!, we thought.)

And then, come to find out, the custom scarf we were asked to make into a garment happened to be a very special, very limited-edition Lily Pulitzer bright and flowery beauty that originally had been commissioned by the Ford Motor Company to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure; given as a gift for attendees of a very special auction... the scarf itself was a story.

We’re happy to be creating not one but two special custom Halter Hotties blouses toward helping eradicate breast cancer. These super-special garments will be auctioned off at what is billed

“An Extraordinary Evening” ~ and we know it will be ~ the Grace Notes benefit dinner & auction to be held on March 12, 2011 at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel

Both blouses, who's names honor my grandmothers, are designed with gathered, peasant style necklines and wrap-around waist sashes. They fit sizes Extra Small thru Large. The top blouse, "Evelyn's Posies", features a 1950's vintage metal & blue glass cabochon button. The bottom blouse, "Alma's Garden", ties with a decorative candy striped ribbon & wide turquoise satin sash.

Halter Hotties Define a Soft Inner Wicked

We at Halter Hotties love to find ways to play with opposites, and Caballero's Girl, a blouse in our new Valentine Collection, helps us to do just that.

Here you have 1970's paisley silk twill meeting up with just-this-minute styling. Subtle sensuality begins with a ruffly neckline, then plunges into dangerous sexuality with the deep back, holding back just a bit with the lilac silk sash. We imagine a good western girl getting lured into an opium den in Chinatown. Or maybe she’s an eastern innocent being lured into the penthouse of a wily corporate tycoon.

Designing Woman ~ She’s in Halter Top Heaven

Kim Alexander could be the kind of woman you’d love to hate. She’s drop-dead gorgeous and seems to have it all. A home in University Place that seamlessly blends modern, retro and antique with comfortable and chic; a loving family that includes her artist husband, daughter, poodle, and two cute cats and the creative wherewithal that has seen her through one successful glamorous career and into another.

But it’s hard not to like Alexander. Because she’s earned all that she has through work and more than her share of hard knocks. She’s stumbled through tough times and persevered with healthy doses of love and laughter.

And she really is talented.

She sits in her workroom, sketching effortlessly. The deft placement of lines leaps to life as a woman’s body, draped in a silky garment. She’s sketching her next “Halter Hotties” top. A 1960s floral silk scarf lies in front of her. She sees new life in the garment. To her, its pattern and style recall a mood, an era, a certain muse. Is it a Bond girl? Is it Barbara Eden from “I Dream of Jeannie?” Is it a silver-screen legend like Marlene Dietrich or Marilyn Monroe?

Alexander breathes life into the scarf, playing a past era against a present one, adding silk charmeuse backing, a wide sash and a vintage button or two. Another halter top is born. And her year-old business is growing fast.

Rebecca Baldwin, proprietor of the Dame Lola boutique that has morphed from a Tacoma brick-and-mortar mainstay into a popular trunk-show shopping experience, explains the appeal of Alexander’s tops, and why they made the cut into Dame Lola’s next sales event.

“Kim Alexander’s gorgeous halter tops are a dream come true! They are a yummy slice of color to add spice to your denim collection or a perfect pick-me-up for that suit you have worn a thousand times,” Baldwin said.

The garment Alexander completes will hang along with the others on the two horizontal rods that cover a wall in her home studio, awaiting sale either at a

trunk show, through her website or at one of the boutiques that carry her line. Her halters can be found in boutiques in Maui, Seattle and in Park City, Utah, home of the popular Sundance film festival. Her

tops will be featured in more boutiques soon, she said.

How the Business was Born
Before she began spending her days hunched over her tables sketching halters and creating them, Alexander drafted drawings of luxury yachts and ran her fingers through opulent fabrics that would finish their interiors. As an interior designer for these yachts, she worked on projects of exclusivity and luxury. She speaks of her first project with a gleam in her eye and a giggle in her voice.

“I designed tassels made from silk, freshwater pearls and gold beads and specified real silver and gold tiles for a pool,” she said. Her projects were featured in publications like “The Megayachts USA,” “Showboats International” and “Yachts International.”

But Alexander’s luxury yacht heyday waned with the economy right about the same time her mother’s health failed. As ALS disease slowly took away her mother’s life, Alexander stepped in to care for her and recognized the ending of her yacht design business. After her mother’s death, she began thinking about her own life. She realized she desired a new career — something creative that would allow her to produce something.

“At about that point, Jaymz (Kim’s husband) suggested a road trip, a way to get away and also to see where he came from,” Alexander said.

On a whim, Alexander whipped up a garment for her 11-year-old daughter. The two searched through Alexander’s scarf collection and in the lavender-scented sewing room and the Halter Hottie prototype was born.

“My daughter was getting all these compliments on Venice Beach and in Santa Monica, and I just thought … Hey, maybe this is what I should do!” More mother-daughter bonding time came through retail therapy, as the two collected more scarves for the project, with an unexpected boon to come after one of their scarf-hunting expeditions.

“One day we came home from an estate sale, our arms loaded with scarves, and Jaymz called out, ‘Hey, there are my halter hotties!’ — and the name was born,” Alexander said.
The process of creating the garments was — and still is — therapeutic for Alexander, soothing her with memories built up over years of sewing side-by-side with her mother. “My mom loved lavender. When we moved mom’s sewing room to my sewing room, it smelled just like Mom.”

Alexander is not one to dwell on past sorrows. She moves resolutely ahead, working up new collections and creating fun and flirty pieces just like the one coming to life at her hands as she talks.

She dreams aloud about the ideal wearer of this new piece of art, and muses, “I’m just hoping that this piece finds a woman who is one-of-a kind, sure of herself, ready for a little timeless glamour; ready for a little fun.”

She could be describing herself. But Alexander laughs that suggestion off.

“No, it’s not about me,” she said. “It’s about every one of us.”

Even while we’re working away indoors, we Halter Hotties dream of playing in the garden (or at the very least, enjoying the fruits of the labors of others.)

Our friend Anne of Moulton created a fabulously fun way to plant a little fun, and we feel the need to share some of our own Garden Bon-Bon inspired daydreams…

We imagine ourselves arriving at the housewarming of a good friend, dressed in casual linen shorts and Halter Hotties,Unforgettable. We know she’ll love the idea of popping some Herbal Tea bon bons in a planter on her deck. And we’ll give her future ideas for fetes with our message in the attachment card: “Can’t wait to be invited to your tea party!”

We imagine tucking a few Garden Pops into a gorgeous glazed planting pot, along with a few gardening basics: pretty gloves, floral pruning shears, maybe a book on garden basics for the new bride and groom. We love that this perfect gift works as symbol for the two cultivating their relationship together, and we love that our blouse, Blue Danube is the perfect blend of floral, flirty, and fun, just as ideal for the occasion as the gift we’ve given.

South Sound Kudos!

So when our friend JCB was chatting us up for a piece she was working up, we at Halter Hotties knew we’d be seeing ourselves in print at some point in the future. But we’ve been so busy creating and brainstorming that we were caught off guard when we opened the summer issue of South Sound Magazine and saw ourselves in living color and nearly larger than life.

We’re so grateful for Jeff Hobson’s amazing images and the words Jessica Corey-Butler wrote, but mostly we’re speechless in awe of the beautiful spread South Sound Magazine did on us.

We blush with embarrassment (but we love, love, LOVE ! it!!!)

Halter Hotties Accessories Help Lift Sagging Spirits (among other things)

Sometimes security comes in odd, sticky packages.

When we at Halter Hotties Headquarters heard about Fashion Tape, we just knew we had to have it. You know those times when your neckline has a tendency to fail you, or when your bra strap wants to take a peek: well, this secret sticky stuff helps you hold it all together.

But we still felt like we needed more help. We realized we weren’t the only ones trying to support our twin troublemakers when wearing our backless blouses.

Enter two solutions: DIMR'S Nipsticks and NuBras, now available through our website.

Both feature reusable design, with DIMR'S Nipsticks adding a bit of smoothing action under clothing like our halter tops and with Nubras adding some shaping.

Being that our own sisters aren’t exactly gravity-defying or small, we were naturally skeptical about how the the NuBra would work for us.

We quickly realized we were onto a miracle product.

While the NuBra, which is effectively two washable, sticky-on-the-inside adhesive cups that connect with a small plastic clasp, doesn’t lift us appreciably, we love that we can adjust it to create the appearance of lift and to add maximum cleavage. A surprise bonus is how it holds the girls in nice and secure.

When Kimberly Alexander designs her Halter Hotties line, she generally uses vintage scarves to inspire each individual garment she makes, infusing each one with a different personality. She usually creates her wearable art within the confines of five basic styles that she devised when she first launched Halter Hotties.

But after immersing herself in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, she found her imagination taking hold, inspiring her to create an entire line with characters from the movie in mind; inspiring her to create a new style and to play with new lengths, neck treatments, sashes and styling. All of this, combined with clever use of fabrics and trim, breathes new life into a classic story.

Curiouser and Curiouser: The first piece conceived for this collection, this garment introduces a new, tunic-length style with expanded coverage on the corseted back. A Vera scarf and 1950’s blue glass cabochon button ground this flight of fancy in a bit of history.

Fashionably Late: V-Front styling on this Vera ivory chiffon floral beauty lends a bit of vest-front dignity to this blouse, though the overall style unwinds our uptight lapine friend.

My Cup of Tea: Two scarves create the treat here, with a blue, floral-print 1950s scarf as the body of the blouse, while a teal chiffon scarf plays up the ruffled neck, becoming an alluring bow in the back.

Whooo Are You? Metamorphosis never looked so good! Butterflies flutter around in a 1960s silk scarf body, with a second, lime-green scarf floating just below the neckline. Add pink silk crepe de chine lining and a corseted back, and perfection is Whooo You Are.

As we complete 55 Feet of a crazy checkerboard runway for our upcoming fashion extravaganza this weekend,

We imagine the Cheshire mincing her steps down our catwalk with the ease of a seductress, all slinky-cool-grey.

We wonder, will we lose the Tweedles, De and Dum, as they negotiate this wild fashion path?

And we spy Alice, changeable like her blouses, from demure and girly to… wait a minute…is it just us, or is she growing?

Here at Halter Hotties HQ, we’ve pulled an Alice-in-Wonderland, disappearing into our rabbit hole alternate universe of creativity.

And we’re super excited about the new, fresh looks we’re churning out (all inspired by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland movie.)

Even still, we recognize the need to wrap things up in order to come out and play, and now we have the perfect reason to do just that!

Hosted by Tari Free, along with our friends at Vixens House of Shoes and Apparel and Stella & Dot, we’ll be bringing out our newest looks at a fashion show & wine tasting event on May 8, at Cork Wine Bar in Tacoma (3012 6^th Avenue) from 6 to 10 p.m.

The evening will feature fabulous wine cocktails and wine tasting, as well as live music by Casey Frazier. With prize drawings every hour and vendors like our friends from Seattle Sugar Bar, Ace of Dates, (and others!!)

So much goodness, all contained in one space—we shiver in delighted anticipation!

Fanciful New Collection Consumes Halter Hotties!!

A strange sort of insanity (or should we call it inspiration?) overtook us recently, turning Halter Hotties HQ into a mad sort of Underland as we develop and create a new collection based on Tim Burton’s wonderfully warped vision of Alice in Wonderland.

We’re crafting new works of art with all the Halter Hotties trademarks. Silky fabrics are combining with ruffles, ribbons, and notions to become looks inspired by characters in the movies --just add some sex-appeal and environmentally conscious thinking and you have our vision.

(and don’t worry—the full collection will be unveiled just as soon as we’ve completed all ten looks. Prepare to be awed!)

Right about now, E.E. Cummings inspires us at Halter Hotties HQ to think about the playful side of the season with his little lame balloonman whistling far and wee

In our slightly modified version, the weather is shifting and bright spots are appearing… bettyandisbel come dancing, alright, but they’ve grown up and are bringing their own bright spots of color to add to those of the balloonman.

Betty shows off her vivacity in Dandy Lion, crafted from an eighties-era Anne Klein scarf. The sherbet-orange color with ivory accents make us drool delicately for a creamsicle,

while isbel’s Dream Weaver blouse makes us feel a little trippy-wonderful, though the groovy vibe is less patchouli-and-incense, and more sexy-fabulous with its teal corset-tied back.

A friend soon joins bettyandisbel, removing her structured, lightweight wool work jacket to reveal a fair amount of her back and Unforgettable. Like the “mud-luscious” season itself, our unforgettable backless blouse delivers bright spots of hope and brightness in a chocolate-delicious dark background.

Halter Hotties Try On Super Hero Alter-Egos (With A Little Help from our Friends)

When we’re not imagining ourselves as Bond Girls or sixties-era TV queens like Jeannie (I Dream of…) we sometimes like to don our superhero hats here at HHHQ (Halter Hotties Headquarters).

We love to think of ourselves as the back-baring near-deific entity who comes to the aid of damsels in wardrobe-distress, offering a fun, sassy, glam, and eco-sensitive way out of many a fashion emergency.

Last weekend, while we hung out with some new friends from the Ladies Who Launch booth at the Northwest Women’s Show, we realized we could band together and become an all-girl-power version of the SuperFriends.

We would become the Wonder Women of Date Preparation.

So we hear the call of the gal who screams, “eeeek! He asked me out, and he’s HOT –I am… notsomuch right now. HELP!!!”

We spring into action...

First on the scene, Annette and Felicia, from the Seattle Sugar Bar Sugaring Studio, come to our distressed friend’s facial-hair aid, banishing that unsightly moustache and creating the perfectly arched brow.

Leslie Morand follows soon behind, with facial healing and relaxation –not to mention beauty products like the Jane Iredale line-- pulsing through her magic fingertips.

Our gal is feeling a bit more ready to meet Mr. Hottie McHottiepants, but… wait. She can’t just have all her wonderful new Jane Iredale products floating around in a paper bag, or her purse…right?? Before she can even gather a bead of worry-sweat on her forehead, in swoops Veronica Mayo, offering up her fabulous Vemayca bag as a beautifully practical solution to that little problem.

Oh, but what to wear?!!! Our hottie-to-be begins biting her beautifully-colored lip, but before dread can even consider settling in at her breast, in swoop Halter Hotties! We offer up a flirty little number like "Palace Garden" and she smiles a fabulously bright, worry-free smile…for a moment.

“But,” she stammers, “I have no idea what I’m doing for this date. This is a fabulous top, and I love it, but…” before she can continue

Days are longer, birds are louder, and we at Halter Hotties Central are walking with a special spring in our steps, occasionally tossing in a bit of a jig, keeping our eyes open for pots of gold at the ends of rainbows.

Bullion Blush caught our eye instead, and we especially loved that there was no pesky little green man to be angry with us for pulling on this little number!

No need to panic or get out the address book: we’re only up the stairs from where we were.

But all that up and down, up and down, up and down (and no elevator!) gave us some pretty good body aches so we felt justified in our rest. To that end, we got to catch up with some favorite friends, old and new.

New friends include most of this season’s cast of Project Runway. We’re excited to see fresh new talent and have high hopes that this is going to be one of the show’s stronger seasons!

And remember ‘way back to Season Four? We loved to love Chris March and his outlandish costuming (and infectious laugh) back then, and now we love that his book, “I HEART CHRIS MARCH” is in our hot little hands.

For now, we’re resting with Lifetime Television and our new book.

Sweet Plummy Goodness Goes Halter Hotties Naughty!

We’re here at Halter Hotties HQ and we’re thinking of the South. Particularly New Orleans, that beautiful contradiction.

It’s where southern charm collides with good-old-boy vice. Where the bible belt smacks into Voodoo Juju. Where Shrove Tuesday, the day before the religious observance of Lent has morphed into Fat Tuesday, that decadently juicy celebration of all things… well, decadent and juicy.

And just because we’ve been redundant and said decadent and juicy twice (three times!)

Old Meets New: Rose-colored Nostalgia goes Halter Hotties!!

By now you probably get it already: We at Halter Hotties bring you fashion goodness in the form of silky-sexy, elegant, one-of-a-kind halter tops crafted from vintage scarves and featuring embellishments like silk cording, lining, and sashes, as well as buttons that whisper nostalgic notions.

For Red Roses, one of the pieces from our Valentine Collection, we took that nostalgia and placed it front and center. The 1980’s-era Vera scarf reminds us of courting in the garden, of our first Prom corsage, and of bouquets gifted in the spirit of good ol’ St. Valentine. Sure, we loved those old rituals, but these days it’s so much more fun to wear your roses with an element of sex and surprise, than to clean up dead stalks from the vase and tabletop! And, since we’ve grown up since Prom, we appreciate that this blouse has a decidedly grown up (and ever-so slightly wicked!) sensibility we can share… that flare of heat from the red sash and that slow, delightful burn as we reveal our bared back.

Excitement is building to white-hot in Halter Hottie World

Headquarters. Yes, we love jet-setting about the globe, and heading to our favorite big cities. Yes, we love spreading the Halter Hotties love. Yes, we love going to places where retail thrives. When faced with the prospect of doing all three together, like right now, we fairly scream, “yes, Yes, YES!!”

We’re off to the California Market Center, or “the CMC”, where, year-round, thousands of product lines all get together in showrooms and seasonal trade shows for wholesalers to peruse ‘til their feet are battered in their Jimmy Choos. Our destination is the Penthouse, where the FOCUS Apparel and Accessories Show will be housed. This particular segment of the hu-normous Los Angeles Fashion Market puts an emphasis on “indie-spirited, design-focused contemporary collections” (does that describe Halter Hotties or what!??)

Apparently, the fine FOCUS folks are excited about us, too! We show up in their blog (thanks, guys!) only a couple entries away from Althea Harper from our fave show Project Runway.

Our heads spin, truly they do.

But for now, focus we must: destination FOCUS is in our sights!!

Sure, most of the world is facing a weird cold snap, but here at Halter Hotties world central, we’re starting to feel real heat!

Even as we’re working up exciting new collections (think Mardi Gras and Valentines, baby!) and loving the improvements to our website (check out the new home page here) we’ve got some bigger goings on in the horizon: We’ve been invited to show at the "FOCUS Apparel and Accessories Show" during the Los Angeles Fashion Market January 16, 17 and 18.

We're stoked to be LA bound, for sure, but complacency is so not our style... Instead we’re busy working up a sweat, tagging, bagging and packing up, getting ready to go share the Halter Hottie lovin’ in a major way!

Halter Hotties Central is still in holiday-recovery mode, and totally buzzing (but in a good way, not in the “spinning, feeling sick” way).

We’re generating some excitement for the upcoming weeks, for sure,

but we’re also still reeling over the perfect match-up, a trifecta (four-fecta?) of Hottie-ness. Take one mild-mannered, tarot-card reader named Voxxy Vallejo,

add some drums and incendiary guitar, put her on-stage in a Halter Hottie original at the Speakeasy, Tacoma’s brand new heat-and-energy generating venue, and -oh yeah!- make that all happen during First Night, in Tacoma, during the blue-moon New Year’s celebration...

It was transformation, and magic, just the way Halter Hotties likes it.

And Voxxy personified this magic.

On the stage during First Night, her Royal Hottiness went from the kind, unassuming Jane Everywoman we met last week to Sultry Rockerchick, purring and growling and oozing the kind of self-assured sensuality that makes us want to shout, “Hell, YEAH!”

It just kind of slams home our resolution for the New Year with a bang on the tom-toms: In 2010 we will release ourselves from our inhibitions, and let our inner Hottie come out to play!

Halter Hotties Beg the Questions: “What Are You Doing On New Year’s Eve?”

We’re feeling sultry at Halter Hotties Central right now. There’s a sense of relief that all the holiday mania has ended, but there’s a sense of melancholy hiding out… Dark days and long nights can make us moody, after all, and we recognize that the year is fading to a close.

We cast eyes on our favorite Mr. Hottie and begin to hum a tune, then sing the words, “What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?”

He knows us well, and he knows how to make our sad eyes light up.

He hands us a present, after all the other boxes and tissue paper have disappeared.

“Gilt Opulence” finds its way into our fingers, and the light dawns that what we’re doing for New Year’s Eve and into the wee hours of the New Year will be opulent, celebratory and naughty good times indeed.

Halter Hotties Go to the Wild Side for Christmas (with a wink at Kwanzaa)

Nat King Cole soothes Christmas-weary Halter Hotties as he sings of chestnuts roasting on an open fire (though he can keep Jack Frost’s nose-nipping, thankyouverymuch!) and we take a moment (and a long sip of mulled wine) to think toward other warm places… Like Africa… And we offer up a look that’s well-suited for curling up in front of that open fire on Christmas day, reveling in the ending of the Christmas mayhem. Lest we forget, however, the ending of the Christmas season also marks the beginning of Kwanzaa, an African-American celebration that kicks off December 26.

Occasionally we at Halter Hotties Headquarters feel the need for Donna-Reed-divine-homemaker dreams. Our hair would be freshly coiffed, our lips the most edibly-divine shade of cranberry, our heels impeccably non-scuffed (and comfortable, right? A girl can dream big!)

Wouldn’t it be just nifty to pull a clove-studded glazed ham out of the oven while Mr. Hottie shook and garnished the perfect cocktail? No, wait! Even niftier, pulling that ham out of the oven of our Hawaiian bungalow decorated with a faux, flocked tree and bright blue ornaments… Our swing skirt would sway as our hips did a quick little hula dance to the table.

“Mist” would pair up perfectly with that kicky little skirt (and polyester-fluff apron) while Bing Crosby wished us a jaunty little “Mele Kalikimaka.”

And we’d smile, twirl, and wink… Merry Christmas, indeed!

The Twelve Days of Halter Hotties: Day Nine

Alright, alright! We get it! It’s cold, it’s the holiday season, we’re rushing around frantically from work, to shopping, back home, trimming trees and decking halls, then darting off to our social obligations…

Then, above all this bustle we hear... “(The sweet sound of) Silver Bells… Silver Bells… It’s Christmas time in the city…”

And as we wear our Halter Hottie du jour “Silver Shadow” we remember to float serenely through the crazy times, being in the moment because we know that like in all the other years, “Soon it will be Christmas day.”

(And serenity is always better than insanity.)

Halter Hotties Go Sultry Solstice

We Halter Hotties just love a little bit of prim with our sexy. We love to imagine ourselves buttoned up in our navy wool suit, high heels enhancing the curves of our calves encased in not-quite-opaque hose, pencil skirt hinting at the swell of our hips, the high neck of our blouse whispering modestly, “I’m not that kind of girl”…

The office hottie-man sees through our alter-ego look, though. Must be some kind of glint in our eyes hiding behind thick-framed glasses.

Mr. Hottie invites us to his place for a post-work, celebration-of-solstice drink.

We hesitate a little before offering up our “I guess that would be alright…”

In his warm penthouse, he takes our overcoat, and as we warm up we slide out of our jacket. His eyes light up when he sees his suspicions verified… “Moonlight” keeps with our “good girl” reputation, and hums the notes to the song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as we tell Mr. Office Hottie, “ I really can’t stay.”

Will we break the spell of a waxing moon and the longest night of the year?

After all, it’s really, really cold outside…

Halter Hotties go Interior Design (and become the decoration!!)

We Halter Hotties have a passion for interior fashion as well as year-round halter tops.

We love the holidays for the opportunity to tart up our homes, some years going modern glass and silver, some years

playing with light (from Sweets Treats and Designs), still other years loading up on gold and cranberry to contrast with pine boughs and sprigs of holly leaves in a luxuriously traditional theme.

A Trip Down Nostalgia Lane with Halter Hotties

Well before Tim Burton and his Nightmare Before Christmas, back when we were tiny baby hotties, we at Halter Hotties World Headquarters marveled over the stop-motion puppetry of the Rankin/Bass. Then, we loved that toys were talking. Later, we loved the story or Rudolph, the underdog (under-deer?) of the reindeer world whose reindeer buddies used to laugh and call him names and never let him play reindeer games… But he got them later, as the lead-deer on the team with his bright red nose (hmmm, did Rudy have a drinking problem, maybe?)

For any hottie who might have been left over in the past, we offer up our sophisticated take on how to get the attention to put you ahead of any pack: “Burnished Metals” shines with a subtle shimmer and refined elegance, perfect for a day-to-night mood. This beautiful blouse recalls strains of Burl Ives singing “Silver and Gold” -- “How do you measure its worth? Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth.”

Twelve Days of Halter Hotties: Day Four

We’re starting to feel a little festive here in Halter Hottie-land. And there’s nothing like a little bit of holiday tradition to help that festive spirit grow! We love a good trek to the Nutcracker, all jokes about men in tights aside, and when we wear “The Majorette” we imagine that we’re leading the soldiers in their battle against the mice.

Of course, we’d much rather watch the action on stage from our warm perch in the audience, with apologies to Clara and all the others for commanding the attention from all the men in the audience away from the dance. (pssst—Clara! I know where you can get your own Halter Hottie!)

Spiced Nut Recipe
Toast 1 cup pecans, cashews, walnuts, or mixture, spread out in a single layer on a baking sheet in a 350° oven, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes, set aside.

Combine the following in saucepan;

· 1 cup sugar

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

• 2 tablespoons butter

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

• 2 tablespoons water

Cook stirring constantly, until a small amount dropped into cold water forms a soft ball, about 236° on a candy thermometer. Stir in the 1 cup of toasted nuts. Remove from heat and stir until no longer glossy. Pour into buttered baking sheet and spread thinly. Cool, and break into pieces.

The encyclopedic folks tell us that here in the Pacific Northwest we enjoy a “temperate” climate.

Ummm… Really? We at Halter Hotties Central have been burying our own bared backs under layers of thermal undies, wool, fleece, and gore-tex, and still shivering!

The cold snap is enough to make us say, “enough!”

Cranking up the stereo and the heat, we pop on Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and our saucy-hot little halter top.

“Cabin Fever”, aptly named as we avoid going anywhere that requires layering up, is the perfect little number for jumping and jiving to “Mr. Heatmiser.” We embrace the idea of the funny little ogre who tells us, “I’m Mr. Green Christmas, I’m Mr. Sun… I’m Mr Heat Blister, I’m Mr. One hundred and one.”

Forget Jack Frost, Frosty the Snowman and dreams of a White Christmas: as our feet fly and our hearts pump, our kicky little Halter Hottie top reminds us that we’re as free and hottie as we want to be!
